Tyler Mitchell, a 23-year-old photographer known for his authentic talent, will be the first black photographer to shoot a Vogue cover in its 126-year history.
Thanks to Beyoncé using her ‘power and influence to get him that assignment’ – as told to Huffington Post by a source – Mitchell was chosen to be the creative eye for the magazine’s notorious September cover. Despite this being positive news in one sense, in another, the shocking admittance that there has never been a black photographer to capture a Vogue cover in it’s span of 126 years highlights severe issues behind the scenes of the glossy pages.
On his work, Mitchell told the Times: “I depict black people and people of color in a really real and pure way, […] There is an honest gaze to my photos.”.
